The 2005 Lanciano Reserva is made up of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Mazuelo aged for 21 months in French and Russian oak followed by 24 months of bottle aging prior to release. It offers up an already complex, inviting nose of earthy minerals, floral notes, balsam wood, tobacco, blackberry, and plum. On the palate the dense fruit is nicely balanced by the wine’s lively acidity and firm structure. It will benefit from several more years of cellaring and offer prime drinking through 2020.
